Artist Biography

Bea Evan (1902–1985) was an American artist whose work spanned drawing, watercolor, and oil painting. She is documented in the permanent collections of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, which holds a group of her drawings donated by the artist in 1965. These works, primarily watercolor and wash studies of landscapes, coastal scenes, and figures, date to the mid-twentieth century and depict locations including Rockport, Massachusetts; Washington Square Park in New York City; and California.

Evan also appears in the collection of the National Gallery of Art as a co-creator, alongside George Luks, of a drawing titled Four Figures (c. 1925). This association suggests a connection to the circle of American realist and Ashcan School artists active in the early twentieth century.
