About the Artist:
William Gropper worked across multiple media, including easel painting, printmaking, poster design, illustration, and murals. He completed three mural projects in oil on canvas: two canvases for the Freeport, New York Post Office (1938); three canvases for the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior building in Washington, DC (1936-1937, installed 1940); and one canvas for the Northwestern Branch Post Office in Detroit, later moved to the Wayne State University Student Center.
