About the Artist
Anthony Di Bona (1921–2013) was an American metalsmith and sculptor renowned for his Brutalist works in copper, bronze, and steel. After studying at the Worcester Art Museum School and serving in World War II, he established a long-standing studio practice in Massachusetts, producing work for over five decades. Di Bona developed a distinctive visual language defined by heavily textured surfaces, expressive patinas, and organic, often asymmetrical forms. His work is represented in major public and private collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Worcester Art Museum; and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He also exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts (now the Museum of Arts and Design) in New York.
Condition Report
Good condition overall, with a rich, stable patina. Minor surface scratches and scuffs are present, consistent with age and material. No structural damage or significant loss to the patinated surface is observed.
Provenance: The Robert L. Pfannebecker Collection.
