Set of Japanese Modernist Glazed Yunomi Cups
Set of Three Japanese Modernist Yunomi Cups
Object type: Yunomi (daily tea cups)
Origin: Japan
Period: 20th century, Modernist
Material: Stoneware
Dimensions (largest): 2.75 inches height × 3.38 inches diameter
Condition: Good. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Surface wear consistent with age and use.
Description
This set includes three yunomi cups, each with a distinct glaze treatment.
Cup one has a brown glossy drip glaze. Thicker glaze applied near the rim ran downward during firing, creating vertical drips that stop above the unglazed foot ring. The surface is glossy and reflective. Unsigned.
Cup two has a maroon metallic glaze with a faint blue hue visible when the cup is rotated in light. The reduction-fired, copper-saturated glaze produces a metallic sheen resembling oxidized bronze. Signed on the underside of the base. Characters are partially legible.
Cup three has a soft pale purple and pink glaze with a matte surface. A painted or slip-trailed flourish design appears on the exterior near the rim. Unsigned.
All three cups measure 2.75 inches in height and 3.38 inches in diameter. All are in good condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration. Minor surface wear is present and consistent with age.
