Sara Cwynar (b. 1985) is known for her visually layered works that examine how images shape our understanding of beauty, value, and truth. Her practice blends photography, design, and film to question the circulation and consumption of visual culture. Using found imagery, commercial catalogs, and vintage ephemera, Cwynar constructs meticulous compositions that blur the lines between analog and digital, past and present.
Cwynar holds an MFA from Yale University and has exhibited internationally, including solo presentations at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Her work is held in the permanent collections of major institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Her films have been screened at prominent festivals including TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam), and the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
This screenprint was created for the White Columns Portfolio, a curated edition benefiting New York’s oldest alternative art space.
