This pair of vintage woven bush fiber bird Dream Vehicles originates from the Iatmul Tribe along the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. Each piece is constructed in the form of a bird and features cowrie shell eyes, painted fiber, and raffia detailing.

Dream Vehicles are woven by women using rattan and hand spun string. They are decorated with shell eyes and feathers and are kept in the rafters of the home. The spirit travels in the Dream Vehicle while a person sleeps. Forms include pigs, birds, crocodiles, and even helicopters. These objects are made by women to teach clan stories and to aid clan members through dreams and requests.
