Artist Biography: Jack Gerber (1927–2021)
Jack Gerber was an American painter and sculptor whose work is characterized by an expressive, figurative style. A Philadelphia native, Gerber received formal academic training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he was awarded a Fellowship. He continued his studies at the Art Students League of New York and in Woodstock, NY.
Gerber was an active figure in the Philadelphia art community, holding numerous solo exhibitions and serving in leadership and juror roles for the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Water Color Club, and the Philadelphia Sketch Club. His work is represented in the permanent collections of several major institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Woodmere Art Museum, the National Academy of Design, the Corcoran Gallery, the Allentown Art Museum, and the James A. Michener Art Museum.
