Artist Biography:
Horst Janssen (1929–1995) was one of the most influential German draftsmen and printmakers of the 20th century. Born in Hamburg, he studied under Alfred Mahlau at the Hochschule für bildende Künste. Over his prolific career, Janssen produced an extensive body of drawings, etchings, lithographs, and illustrated works known for their emotional intensity and technical refinement. His subjects often include still lifes, self-portraits, and landscapes, infused with wit and introspection.

Janssen’s work is represented in major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the British Museum (London), the Albertina (Vienna), the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and the Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg, which houses the largest archive of his works.
