Horst Janssen (1929–1995) was one of the most important German draftsmen and printmakers of the 20th century. Born in Hamburg, he studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (University of Fine Arts) under Alfred Mahlau. Janssen became known for his prodigious output of etchings, lithographs, and drawings, often characterized by sharp psychological observation and technical refinement. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the British Museum (London), the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and the Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg, which houses an extensive archive of his work. Galerie Brockstedt maintained a close relationship with Janssen throughout his career, regularly presenting his prints and drawings.
