A rare small antique Tlingit woven cedar bark basket/vessel featuring a flared ripple rim. Crafted from cedar bark, the vessel shows tight, even weaving, and a sculptural rim form. Most likely this was used when picking berries. In very good condition with wear consistent with age.
The Tlingit people, whose homelands include the Ketchikan region of southeast Alaska, are renowned for their craftsmanship, deep clan based traditions, and sophisticated artistic heritage. Cedar bark was an essential material, harvested and prepared with great care for weaving baskets, mats, hats, and ceremonial objects.
