Antique Thai Sawankhalok Glazed Four Lug Earthenware Vessel
Thai Sawankhalok Glazed Jar
Glazed Earthenware
Height: 10.5 in. (26.7 cm) | Diameter: 7 in. (17.8 cm)
Period: Likely 17th-18th Century CE
Origin: Sawankhalok kilns, Sukhothai Kingdom, Thailand
This is a four lug jar produced by the historic Sawankhalok kilns in central Thailand. It is made of high fired earthenware (stoneware) and covered in a translucent celadon type glaze.
The form, with its four looped lugs applied at the shoulder, is a classic Sawankhalok storage vessel shape. The glaze exhibits subtle variations and pooling, with natural wear and minor surface imperfections consistent with centuries of age and use.
Sawankhalok ware was a major export commodity across Southeast Asia from the 14th-17th centuries. This piece, based on typology and glaze quality, is consistent with later production from the 17-18th Century, a period of continued regional trade following the kingdom's decline.
Condition: In good, intact condition. Surface shows expected wear, minor glaze pitting, and no significant restoration.
