Antique Portrait of Levi J. Workum (1822–1883), Framed (Oil on Canvas)
Portrait of Levi J. Workum (1822–1883)
Attributed to the American School, Nineteenth Century
Oil on canvas, housed in a period stepped bronze tone gilt frame.
This portrait depicts Levi J. Workum, a principal figure in the 19th-century American spirits industry through his association with the Freiberg & Workum distillery of Ohio. Established in the mid-19th century and operational for over sixty years, the distillery achieved prominence for its production of the "Lexington Club" brand of Kentucky straight bourbon.
Provenance: By direct descent through the Workum family.
Condition: The artwork is preserved in stable condition, commensurate with age. Notable imperfections consist of localized paint loss in the upper right quadrant, abrasion to the canvas near the sitter's sleeve, and losses to the gesso and composition of the frame. These elements are fully documented in the accompanying photographs.
