Antique Monumental Hand Carved Folk Art Masonic Stippled Box
Antique Monumental Hand Carved Folk Art Masonic Stippled Box
A monumental hand carved Masonic folk art box with stippled motifs and symbolic iconography throughout. Centered on the hinged lid is the classic Masonic emblem, the letter G framed by the square and compass, surrounded by five pointed stars. In the lower right corner, a broken column is etched, a symbol within Masonry signifying a life cut short. The upper left features a sheaf of corn, representing labor, sustenance, and a call to charity in recognition of the Brothers who came before. In the upper right there’s a carved crown and scepter, likely denoting affiliation with a particular chapter or degree.
The sides include inverted stars and a wine goblet, possibly referencing the Table Lodge ceremony. The box shows wear consistent with age, including burn marks typical of pyrography along the upper and lower edges of the lid, a hole where the lid meets the body at the upper right corner, and a still functional hinged lock at the front.
Size: 15”H x 14.75”W x 6.75”D
