Antique Hand Carved Japanese Tanuki Raccoon Dog Wood Sculpture. Hand carved root/burl wood sculpture of a robed tanuki. The ball at the front of the sculpture looks to be burl. Prominent during the edo period, tanuki sculptures came from the Japanese folklore surrounding the animal being a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.
