Antique Chip Carved Tramp Art Tabletop Dresser with Mirror (Late 19th Century)
This finely detailed tabletop dresser represents an important example in the history of American tramp art. The dresser includes two lower drawers with dimensional stepped “X” motifs surrounding the original round metal ring pulls. The sides display a gradual stepped carving that culminates in a carved heart at the center—a motif often associated with sentiment and personal expression in tramp art. The upper section incorporates a swivel mirror framed by two small winged drawers and flanking platform shelves. Two horseshoe-shaped carved details embellish the backboard on either side of the mirror.
